War veterans and those who lost their lives at sea were honored Sunday as the Cayman Islands joined Commonwealth nations around the world in solemn remembrance.
Police in ceremonial uniform marched through George Town before the laying of the wreaths at the cenotaph and seamen’s memorial.
Governor Helen Kilpatrick, Premier Alden McLaughlin, Leader of the Opposition McKeeva Bush and representatives of the Cayman Islands Veterans Association and the Cayman Islands Seafarers Association laid wreaths.
Pastor Torrance Bobb offered a prayer of thanksgiving to those who made the “supreme sacrifice” in times of war, and Rev. Stanwyck Myles led a prayer for peace.
Capt. Dale Banks announced the two minutes of silence which commenced with the firing of a signal gun at 11:11 a.m,, the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th month – the official end of World War I and the symbolic moment of remembrance for all of those who lost their lives in conflict.
